Hazelwood has the medicinal property of neutralizing the body's acidity. It is an ancient remedy first used by aboriginal people to reduce their babies' teething pain. When amber is worn on the skin, the warmth of the skin releases trace amounts of healing oils (succinic acid) which is then absorbed into the blood stream. Commonly known as "teething jewelry" in Europe, Baltic amber has been a natural remedy for pain relief for hundreds of years. It helps strengthen the immune system as well as relieve headaches, migraines, and a variety of other aches and pains. These Hazelwood-Amber necklaces are made from the branches of a hazelwood tree along with Baltic amber beads and a few glass beads for ornamentation. No chemicals of any kind (pesticides, fertilizers, etc.) are used to grow the hazelwood trees these necklaces are made from. The clasp used for this model is sterling-silver coated which tends to be less allergenic than nickel clasps. The necklaces are handmade - from the gathering of the wood to the stringing of the beads.
Please note that this style of necklace is primarily a hazelwood necklaces. There is less Baltic amber on this necklace vs. a necklace made only of Baltic amber. This necklace is not intended to deliver the full benefit of wearing a Baltic amber necklace.
How to care for your hazelwood-amber necklace:
Unlike our other hazelwood necklaces, it is NOT recommended to wear the hazelwood with Baltic amber necklace while bathing (to keep from coating the amber beads with soaps/shampoos). Keeping the hazelwood moist does aid the body in absorbing the beneficial properties of the hazelwood so wet the necklace any time you need an extra "boost." It is also not recommended to wear the hazelwood in the pool, spa, or in other highly chlorinated water as it will shorten the lifespan of the necklace.
Don't be alarmed if/when the bark comes off the hazelwood beads; the wood beads will change over time as they cannot be coated with anything in order to perform their function (absorbing acidity).
